We had a brilliant day of tennis and fun at our Finals Day—it was fantastic to be able to have a proper social event again. There was some high quality tennis on display, and spectators and players were fuelled by an amazing spread of delicious food—a huge thank you to all the people who prepared the food, barbecued and cleared up. This year all matches were umpired by LTA-qualified officials, a new innovation which gave gave the contests some extra spectacle. The results were:

Nine months after the competition began, having been interrupted by two lockdowns, our 2020 Club Singles Champions were crowned on Sunday evening. Louise Field retained the Ladies Title, beating Vicky Newell in straight sets. Former Men's champion, Arunan Raviendrakumar reclaimed the cup from last year's winner, Neville Attwood, in another closely fought match (6-2 7-5).

Congratulations to all the players for some great tennis and staying match fit through lockdown.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Mens Doubles Final could not happen on Finals' Day so it was played on a grey and blustery October day. Nev & Warren won the day 6-0 6-4 against James & Ryan. Congratulations to all players for some fantastic tennis!

Our Winter Doubles competitions are now underway, as well as our 2020 Singles Championships. The Singles finals will be played on Saturday 28th November. While sanctioned tournaments may continue in High COVID risk conditions, spectators are only permitted when the COVID risk is Medium.

Thank you to everyone who helped make our Finals Day in early September a success, especially with all the extra work that was required to comply with the COVID regulations.

Spectators were treated to two high quality games of tennis in warm and sunny conditions. In the Ladies Doubles, Liz & Steph beat Louise & Naomi 6-2 6-3, and in the Mixed Doubles, Sam & Sarah beat Dave & Liz 7-5 6-0.

We were unfortunately unable to play the Mens Doubles Final due to COVID Quarantine restrictions. James and Ryan will now play Warren and Nev later in the Autumn. Update: Nev and Warren won 6-0 6-4 when the final was played on 24th October.

The COVID-19 restrictions came into force just as our Winter Tournaments were due to play their final matches. It was high summer before doubles matches were permitted again, so it did feel quite odd to be playing a Winter Tournament Final on a beautiful warm summer evening!

Congratulations to the champions, and well played to everyone who took part in damp, blustery and/or cold conditions that are the hallmark of winter tennis matches.
