Following the success of a post-lockdown adult camp last year, the week after (1st-5th August), José will be running a special Adult Camp from 10am-12noon each day. You can sign up for the whole week, or just individual sessions–whatever fits your schedule! For more details contact José via email or sign-up online using these links:
Would you like to try out some new or different tennis racquets while also getting tips on how to improve your Doubles Play? If so, join us on Sunday 3rd July at 1:30pm for a free 90 minute Dunlop Racquets and Doubles Clinic with Marc Codling and our very own head coach, José. There will be the usual social tennis sets after the session to allow you to practice what you have learned.
Places are limited so sign-up is essential. (Please use the same ClubSpark login as your membership.) Please note that this replaces the July coach-led social session which would have normally taken place the previous day. Coach-led social takes a break for the summer holidays and will return in the Autumn.
To celebrate the Bank Holiday weekend we will be hosting a fun and social tournament on Sunday 5th June from 2pm until about 5pm. There are just 24 places available and previous events have sold out so please sign up online using your ClubSpark account by 6pm onThursday so we can do a draw.
The theme this time will be the Platinum Jubilee so please bring a cake or other Jubilee-themed food to share, and of course a refreshing beverage (you can store these in the clubhouse fridges during the tennis). Union Flag coloured tennis clothes are also encouraged; regal headwear optional!
An American tournament is a fun way to play doubles with a variety of different partners and opponents over the course of an afternoon. Each player keeps track of the number of individual games he or she has won in each set and the winner is the person who has won the most games at the end of the day. It is a great introduction to social tennis for newcomers to the club, or those improvers who want to try out their new skills at a club session. For regular club social players it is a fun alternative to the usual tennis format.
We are pleased to report that the coin box on court 2 has been repaired and the stuck Euro removed. We understand that €1 and £1 coins look very similar, especially in the dark, but this is the second time this winter that a box has been jammed by a euro coin and so we implore all members to check your coins carefully before inserting them!
Whilst we were paying the engineer's call out charge we also took the opportunity to adjust the settings so that each £1 inserted will now give you 20 minutes of light instead of 30. Rising energy costs remain in the headlines, and as a non-domestic property the Club is not protected by the OfGem price cap. Consequently it has been subject to the full effects of price rises and our unit rate of electricity has doubled.
With the weather already getting warmer, and the Easter Holidays just around the corner, you can now sign up for all the Summer Term Coaching Groups. There are classes for adults and juniors, and all levels of experience. Term starts on Tuesday 19th April.
Membership renewals for both Senior and Junior were sent out from ClubSpark this week. If you have not received one then please check your spam folder, and if you cannot see it, get in touch urgently. We have a waiting list for new adult members and we would hate to lose any members because of an administrative oversight or email being misclassified as spam!
Everyone on our waiting list will be sent an email in the next few weeks asking them to reconfirm their interest in joining and further details of how many places we expect to have available. Anyone wishing to join the waiting list is welcome to do so by emailing email@example.com but unless a large number of people on the list withdraw, we do not expect to be able to offer places to everyone already on the list.
This is a very busy time of year for the Membership Secretary and so our apologies if it takes us longer than usual to respond to enquiries.
Our popular Cardio Tennis sessions with Coach Frances still have a few spaces remaining for the Spring Term. Monday nights 7:20-8:20pm, from 10th January. The cost is just £80 for the term. Sign up online or contact Frances for more details.
Coach-led Social returns on Saturday 4th December at 1pm. There will be fun skill games to improve your doubles play, and then José will ensure you are paired off with players of similar ability to have an enjoyable and fun game of doubles. Coach-led social is open to all members of club social standard and on these Saturdays replaces the Advanced Player Club Sessions which normally run 1-2pm on weekends.
Then join us on Sunday 2nd January for a fun festive-themed American Tournament from 1-4pm. Members should look out for an email containing the online sign up link nearer the time.
Club social sessions will continue to run as normal throughout the festive period (weather and numbers permitting), except on Christmas Day (no session) and Sunday 2nd January (American Tournament).
After some close-fought matches throughout the summer, the Club Championships culminates with Finals Day. Come and watch some great tennis, support your friends and relax with some drinks (BYO) and buffet food.
The first match, the Mens Singles Final, will begin at 11am, followed by the Ladies Singles, Mens Doubles, Ladies Doubles and culminating with the Mixed Doubles. For the first time this year, we have arranged through the LTA to have a qualified Umpire in the chair for all 5 matches!
There will be a barbecue during the afternoon, £5 or bring a food donation (sweet or savoury!) BYO drinks. If you fancy playing a social set as well as watching, social tennis will be available on courts 4 & 5 but please note that courts 1–3 will not be available for play during the finals.
We hope you can join us for what is always a tennis and social highlight of the Club calendar.
