There is a 'fast tennis' tournament a 7pm on Wednesday 27th May to inaugurate the new floodlights on courts 1-3.

We are keen to find out if any members have any particular skills that could be of use to the club. If you think this could apply to you please contact the chairman, the coach or any committee members.

We have our next Open Day on Sunday 15th May running from 10am-5pm.

Hopefully most of the people who intend to enter the summer tournaments have already signed up by now. The sign-up sheets will still be up on the board in the clubhouse for another few days.

The AGM was held on the 19th March and we had the biggest attendance for a few years. The meeting concluded with a presentation to our retiring Saturday morning coach, Michele Shanley followed by wine and snacks. Head coach José Marquez will be taking over supervision of the Saturday groups.

Work on the floodlights for courts 1-3 has progressed smoothly with minimum disruption and they will be operational by April. Most of the funding was provided by Sport England.

The committee has decided to take advantage of the LTA's Great British Tennis Weekend promotion and arrange an Open Day, our first of the year, on Sunday 15th May. There will be food and drinks available and, if the weather is favourable, a barbecue.

Members took advantage of the mild first part of the winter, particularly during the school holidays, by making frequent use of the courts. Play has also continued during the recent cold spell as the court surfaces have resisted icing over as yet. The first tournament of the year is an American Tournament on Tuesday 26th of January at 10am. The Winter Handicap tournament is under way. Entries are encouraged for the singles league.

The AGM is scheduled for Saturday 19th March at 4:00pm followed by free drinks and nibbles. We will be saying goodbye to a long-term coach and we need a quorum for the AGM so please make a note of the date in your diaries. We encourage all members to take an interest in the running of their club.

Stuart and Jodie Lawrence-Taylor took part in a Charity Run on Sunday 6th December in aid of the Royal Marsden Hospital where Sarah has been undergoing treatment. They are all extremely grateful for the generous response of all their friends.

We were all grateful for the excellent quiz run in November by Keith and Liz. There has been a suggestion that the winners, including Mike and Anne Smith and Neville Attwood should organise the next one, so they have been warned!

There is a Christmas Lunch in the clubhouse at 12 on Tuesday 15th December so if you are interested and available and haven't yet put your name down, there is a clearly marked list on the board in the clubhouse for you to sign. The idea is you bring food and some drink to share with others.

The Ladies' team is to be congratulated on winning all their matches in the Surrey Summer League 2015. They now relish the challenge provided by promotion of two league positions for next year. They have recently benefitted from an intensive coaching session with José Marquez, the head coach, which they apparently found very helpful, particularly from the tactical point of view, and they look forward to repeating regularly in the future.

The orange ball competition on Sunday 20th was very successful and those attending witnessed some junior tennis of a high standard. The organiser, Alison Battista, was delighted with everything including the perfect weather! The next LTA competition starts at 9am on Sunday the 1st November and some of our junior members will be participating. This is open to boys and girls who are 18 and under. For those interested in competing, the code to used on the LTA website is SUR15W1125. Again there will be pressure on our courts and there will be no guarantee that many will be available for social play during the morning. Members are encouraged to attend to support the players and socialise with visiting parents and coaches.

While we are talking about competitions, the club will have a quiz on Saturday the 21st November, so put that in your diaries. The date has been carefully selected to avoid clashes with Rugby World Cup matches and the Davis Cup final!
