Tournaments

Every summer the club runs the Club Championship tournament for members including competitions for:

  • men’s singles
  • ladies’ singles
  • men’s doubles
  • ladies’ doubles and
  • mixed doubles

The final of each competition is played on a single day, Finals Day. In recent years this has been the first or second Saturday of September. Doubles partners are chosen at random by pulling names from a hat to ensure every year’s competition is different.

During the Winter months there is a Mixed Doubles Handicap Tournament and Mens and Ladies Doubles tournaments.

“American” Tournaments

Throughout the year we host regular fun tournaments in the “American” format to encourage players to meet and play with other members. The format has players play 4-5 games and then rotate to a new doubles partners. The tournament winner is the individual who has won the most games in total at the end of the afternoon.

The dates of these tournaments are advertised in the newsletter and club house.

Singles Box League

The Singles Box League runs throughout the year. Each round lasts 8-10 weeks, and then the winners of each box are promoted to a higher one. To join the next round, please contact Mike Smith.

Fast4 Tennis

This is a simple, exciting way of speeding up a conventional tennis match. See the LTA website for the rules.

Plate Tournament

A plate tournament is a knock-out tournament where the first round losers go into a second alternative knock-out tournament, with an eventual winner. This means that every entrant is guaranteed at least two matches.
