A highly successful American Tournament was held on the last sunny Sunday of the year which achieved the desired objective of stirring into action some members who have been absent from the club for a few weeks and others who may have over-indulged over the Christmas period. Congratulations are due to the winner, Tina Fuselli, who demonstrated that being a full-time squash coach need be no hindrance to successful tennis match play. Three courts were in continuous use and most participants played 6 sets consisting of 7 games. Thanks are due to Keith for conceiving and organising the tournament and to Graham and Liz for their contributions to the festive drinks and snacks that were enjoyed by all afterwards in an appropriate way to conclude a successful year.
The annual Christmas Lunch is scheduled for Tuesday the 16th of December at about 12.30. Although this is organised principally by the attenders at the sessions on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, all members and guests are welcome. All participants are asked to bring a food contribution and there is a list in the clubhouse for prospective attenders to indicate what they will be providing.
RPRLTC is please to report it is now tweeting. The handle is @rprltc1. Suggestions for items and subjects for inclusion are welcome, as well as responses. If you've enjoyed your coaching session or had a great morning or afternoon social session, let everyone know!
During the week ending the 16th August the HSBC Road to Wimbledon Championships for Under 14s took place at the All England Club. Jodie Lawrence-Taylor, who was seeded 2nd won all 3 of her matches in the group stage and her quarter and semi-final matches to take her into the final. Some members of RPRLTC including Nicky, Maura and Paul were privileged to see the final which lasted 2 and a half hours with the 1st set alone lasting 1 and a half. It was full of long, exciting rallies of high quality and was settled by a tie-break with Jodie losing in the end 7-6, 6-4 to a girl who has been experiencing a great run of recent form.
The next day she was up in Nottingham for the National Championships where she lost in the semi-final to the number 1 ranked U14 girl and tournament winner. Congratulations to Jodie on these tremendous and impressive performances.
