Raynes Park Residents Lawn Tennis Club will be holding an open day on July 3.
With Wimbledon just around the corner there is no better time to pick up a racket and get on court.
So if you are new to tennis or have neglected your forehand and backhand in recent years but would like to get back into the game we are offering a day of free coaching.
To find out more and book a coaching sessions go to the LTA's Great British Tennis Weekend website.
To round off what has been a busy year for our younger players we will be holding a tounament across two weekends this year. July 2 is the day dedicated to our youngest players and July 9 will be for our older players to compete for the RPRLTC junior title. This means normal Saturday Junior coaching will be suspended and the tournaments mark the final sessions of the summer while the coaching team take a well earned break.
Thanks to everybody who made it along to Sunday's American Tournament. A fantastic turnout with more than 20 members choosing not to watch Andy Murray cruise through to the quarter finals of the French Open and instead join in the play. In fact, it was such a success that the Sunday American tournament will now become a regular monthly event. Well done to all who played!
Raynes Park Residents Lawn Tennis Club will once again this year be taking part in the LTA's Great British Tennis Weekend. On Sunday May 15 the club will throw open its doors to prospective new members. Jose is offering coaching sessions for children and adults from 10am until 2pm. Then from 2pm until 5pm there will be a free to play session where visitors can use the courts.
The committee will be out in force to welcome and visitors and answer any questions and we urge members to pop down and join in. We also would welcome any budding bakers who want to bring along a cake or pastry to show off what a hospitable club we are.
Social tennis will be suspended during the Open Day and the courts will not be available for normal use.

We are keen to find out if any members have any particular skills that could be of use to the club. If you think this could apply to you please contact the chairman, the coach or any committee members.
We have our next Open Day on Sunday 15th May running from 10am-5pm.
Hopefully most of the people who intend to enter the summer tournaments have already signed up by now. The sign-up sheets will still be up on the board in the clubhouse for another few days.

The AGM was held on the 19th March and we had the biggest attendance for a few years. The meeting concluded with a presentation to our retiring Saturday morning coach, Michele Shanley followed by wine and snacks. Head coach José Marquez will be taking over supervision of the Saturday groups.
Work on the floodlights for courts 1-3 has progressed smoothly with minimum disruption and they will be operational by April. Most of the funding was provided by Sport England.
The committee has decided to take advantage of the LTA's Great British Tennis Weekend promotion and arrange an Open Day, our first of the year, on Sunday 15th May. There will be food and drinks available and, if the weather is favourable, a barbecue.

Members took advantage of the mild first part of the winter, particularly during the school holidays, by making frequent use of the courts. Play has also continued during the recent cold spell as the court surfaces have resisted icing over as yet. The first tournament of the year is an American Tournament on Tuesday 26th of January at 10am. The Winter Handicap tournament is under way. Entries are encouraged for the singles league.
The AGM is scheduled for Saturday 19th March at 4:00pm followed by free drinks and nibbles. We will be saying goodbye to a long-term coach and we need a quorum for the AGM so please make a note of the date in your diaries. We encourage all members to take an interest in the running of their club.
