The highly successful day, Saturday 6th September, included a great deal of expert coaching from the 3 coaches present which was very well received by the large number of participants. Many aspects of the game were addressed and all 5 courts were in use.
During the week ending the 16th August the HSBC Road to Wimbledon Championships for Under 14s took place at the All England Club. Jodie Lawrence-Taylor, who was seeded 2nd won all 3 of her matches in the group stage and her quarter and semi-final matches to take her into the final. Some members of RPRLTC including Nicky, Maura and Paul were privileged to see the final which lasted 2 and a half hours with the 1st set alone lasting 1 and a half. It was full of long, exciting rallies of high quality and was settled by a tie-break with Jodie losing in the end 7-6, 6-4 to a girl who has been experiencing a great run of recent form.
The next day she was up in Nottingham for the National Championships where she lost in the semi-final to the number 1 ranked U14 girl and tournament winner. Congratulations to Jodie on these tremendous and impressive performances.

On Sunday 22nd June the club will be taking part in the LTA's Great British Tennis Weekend between 10 am and 1pm. Players of all standards and ages including beginners are invited to come and take part. There will be expert coaching available and mini-tennis for children from the age of 4 upwards.
Following the successful American Tournament held at the beginning of the month, another will take place on Monday 26th May. All, including visitors are welcome. Please arrive at the clubhouse by 1:30. Names can be entered on the list in the clubhouse.
The Club Committee has agreed to reserve one or (if
the demand warrants it) two courts, for the use of “senior” players who are
relatively new to tennis, and for those members who feel that they are not
“strong” players. The courts would be used to play informal games with other
club members who play to a similar standard.
These courts will be available on an ongoing basis, between 2-00pm and 4-00pm on each Saturday,
beginning on 1st of March 2014. The courts will be available in the “social tennis”
format, that is to say, the club will provide tennis balls at no cost, and all
you have to do is to turn up, put your peg on the board, and doubles games will
be set up for you to play.
The intention of this new initiative is to try to make
the Club more relevant and more appealing to all such players, by offering
informal and fun tennis at the week end, and by
providing the opportunity to practice their game. It is hoped that such all
players will take advantage of this initiative, and that the new social tennis
sessions will be well-used.
If you are new to tennis, or if you feel that you are
not a “strong” player, then please do come along and use the courts at these
times. The Club values you as a member, and wants to offer you tennis in a
format that suits you.
