The new group coaching season starts on Tuesday 8th September under the auspices of Premier Tennis and our Head Coach José Marquez. The sessions progress through mini-red at 4pm through to adults at 7. There is a similar programme on Friday. New this term is Adults improvers sessions on Saturday at 12:30 to cater for those who have difficulty getting home from work in time for coaching during the week. It is also hoped these will help to integrate the less confident into the Social Sessions that start at 2. There will also be additional 'performance' coaching for juniors preceding the seniors' designed to complement and augment the existing Saturday Club coaching.
It is expected that the coaching will be well attended, particularly in view of the club's subsidy of some of it to new members, part of an offer that was made at our Open Day in July. There are still a few vacancies and further details can be found by clicking on the right of this page where it says 'RPRLTC Coaching Sessions - Premier Tennis'.
The finals day on the 18th July was very successful with a number of close sets, and was blessed by perfect weather conditions. The day started with the Ladies' final on which, despite a valiant and determined effort by Nicky, Saidhanya won a closely fought match which, like a number of matches during the day, went to championship tie-break, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6.
This was followed by the Men's in which Saidhanya's brother Arunan was less successful than his sister and was beaten by Nick in straight sets in a match of high quality, though it was much more closely fought than the score suggests. In the Junior Exhibition Doubles match which followed, Sebastian and Amber beat Ruben and Caitlin.
After lunch, Saidhanya and Angela beat Nicky and Martine in the Ladies' Doubles, again in a tight match, 6-3, 3-6, 10-4.
Then Arunan and Keith had a closely fought victory over Sean and Neville, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.
The day concluded with a straight sets win for Mike and Nicky over Nigel and Handan, 7-5, 6-2.
During the afternoon a barbecue kept members and visitors supplied with a constant supply of food. Overall the day was highly enjoyable and attended by a good number of members.
On Sunday 5th July we had another Open Day at which a range of activities including free coaching took place. There was also a barbecue in operation and special offers for discounted membership and further free coaching were available. The event was a great success with nearly 40 new members, both senior and junior, joining and many taking up the coaching offers. Many thanks are due to all the members who worked so hard during the day, with particular thanks to the coaching team operating under head coach Jose Marquez.
The club hosted a Road to Wimbledon competition for its junior members on Saturday 6th of June. The boys' event was won by Sebastian Pereira with Ruben Smith-Haynes the runner up. The girls' event was won by Caitlin Man and the runner up was Ella Blom. Congratulations to all who took part and made the first such event at the club such a success.
This Grade 6 Matchplay event is open to members and non-members aged from 8 and under to under 18. The entry fee is £10 for 8-10 and under, and £12 for 12-18 years. Entry can be performed by logging on to your British Tennis Membership on the LTA website and entering online:

The club participated in the LTA inspired Highland Spring Mini Tennis Month on Saturday morning 18th April from 9 am. The aim of the event was to promote tennis as a family sport by showing parents how easy and what fun it is to play tennis with their children. Free expert coaching was provided for the whole family, and it was well attended. In the afternoon from midday there was an equally successful Open Day for adults of all abilities, again with coaching available. Refreshments and food from the barbecue were available all day.
The AGM was held on Saturday the 21st March and the following new officers were elected unopposed: Secretary - Mr Gordon Smith; Ladies' Captain - Ms Liz Maclean. Thanks were expressed to Mrs Gill Wood who expressed a desire to stand down from these roles. She has been Ladies' Captain for many years.
A highly successful American Tournament was held on the last sunny Sunday of the year which achieved the desired objective of stirring into action some members who have been absent from the club for a few weeks and others who may have over-indulged over the Christmas period. Congratulations are due to the winner, Tina Fuselli, who demonstrated that being a full-time squash coach need be no hindrance to successful tennis match play. Three courts were in continuous use and most participants played 6 sets consisting of 7 games. Thanks are due to Keith for conceiving and organising the tournament and to Graham and Liz for their contributions to the festive drinks and snacks that were enjoyed by all afterwards in an appropriate way to conclude a successful year.
The annual Christmas Lunch is scheduled for Tuesday the 16th of December at about 12.30. Although this is organised principally by the attenders at the sessions on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, all members and guests are welcome. All participants are asked to bring a food contribution and there is a list in the clubhouse for prospective attenders to indicate what they will be providing.
